So, I just recently entered the Lighting Returns DevianArt Contest - my very first on DA. WoooWooow for me!

It was a great way to get some new art and a really good way to inspire one self to make a better and awesome work "on demand" as one could say. Of course, I didn't have any hopes of winning cause the submissions were just amazing - I had no idea there was such a great level of "amateur" artists - I also made a mess with the submission rules and guides so I'm a bit to blame for not taking care of that.

But I did learn a few things from entering this contest that I now share. In hopes you don't make the same rookie mistakes I did:
1. DeviantArt has an awesome level of artist that are just hoping to be discovered - You need to be a lot better if I have any hopes of standing out.
2. Read the Rules - I was so naive and innocent in this regard that it ended up backfiring on me afterwards.
3. First come, first served - If you want your art to stand out, it's better to submit it early on as possible. Of course good art takes it's time but if you submission goes at the end, chances are it won't stand out. Unless you're already an established artist, you may not get much attention.
4. Contest are fun and engaging. They make you draw on subject with a deadline and that's always good practice. Also it's a great way to have feed-back (good and bad).

I hope to enter some more contests on DA so look out for my submissions when they happen. Also... keep the awesome art coming!

:D
